Two Wells Div 1 vs Kangas Div 2 – 05/01/19

With an emphatic batting prowess display, the Two Wells Div 1 side avenged last weeks loss to the Kangas Div 2 side on Saturday, running out winners 17-2.

Batting first, Two Wells started strongly and registered three runs, Sally Green featuring largely in this with a nicely timed hit to left field whilst completing an RBI for her side. Kangas fought back though when third baser Jess Wheatly completed her second put out of the inning, bringing the completion of the top of the first to an end. Kangas didn’t last too long during their first at bat though, Two Wells commencing their defensive dominance for the day by completing their three outs from as many batters.

With many contributors, Two Wells continued to pile on the pressure during the top of the second, putting on a powerful batting display and forcing mercy to be called with their tenth run crossing home plate. Dominating with hits to all parts of the outfield, from powerful strikes to centre field from Amelia Benn and Marlene Salgado to Heather Baldock’s beautifully timed hit to left field, all resulting in two RBI’s each.

Kangas registered their first run of the day during the bottom of the second courtesy of a monster home run by Fran Huddy, a powerful hit through and beyond centre field. Two Wells then clamped down with their defensive pressure once again, completing the inning with no further damage done.

Kangas managed to improve on their defensive pressure of their own during the top of the third, restricting Two Wells to just four runs this time, completing the inning with an impressive double play with a sharp catch to Michelle Rochford at short stop and quick thinking put out to third with loaded bases. Two Wells still heading into the final dig of the day up 17-1.

Scoring another run during the bottom of the third, Kangas Megan Fairey swung hard at the ball and connected on a nice hit out past right field, ensuring the RBI. Two Wells completed their strangle hold on the game with their defensive pressure though by dismissing the next Kangas three batters in concession and sealing a very impressive and convincing 17-2 victory.

Kangas started slow fielding in the 1st innings giving up 4 runs. Ist innings batting things got rolling with 2 people on Kim Storton struck a rolling HR through centre field. Taking a 5 – 4 lead into the second fielding was a lot tighter and the team batting started with good singles from Annie Unger and Kim Storton and nice line drive triple from Amanda Stuart. Followed by a smashing home run from Nikki Schiller and a triple from Ebony Peel. With fast accurate pitching from Cariljn Hill finished off a great win 17-6.
