U13’s Bluejays vs Giants

First game back after the christmas break and all the kids were excited. Today was Bluejays vs Giants with Giants batting first. The first batter at the start of this inning made it to first base. This set the inning up for a great game. Nerves settled and seven Giants made it home with some greats base running and batting. Giants first field saw Mikayla pitching and Bluejays opening with a walk to first base. Bluejays then finished the innings with seven runners home. Second innings saw the batter being struck with some good pitching from Bluejays. Bluejays then went on to get the last two outs with some great team work, and unfortunately no runners home for Giants. Giants’ second field saw a change up, Dannielle opened the pitching with a walk to first base for Bluejays Bluejays finished strong with seven home. The Giants fought well in the field, a great game played by both teams with some exciting moments that had the spectators cheering loud. The future looks bright for the Seniors as some promising juniors develop and grow.

GIANTS DIV. 2 V. TRINITY U17

Giants Div. 2 were today challenged by Trinity U17’s. With a number of their key players out for the weekend, Giants pulled in some of their U13 players to fill the side.
First innings saw some good hits from Giants moving players around the bases to result in 5 runs. With Giants’ regular pitcher out, Kerry Hartup stepped up to the plate resulting in two strike outs but the good batting by Trinity resulted in them achieving 6 runs to take the lead.
The second innings started with a three base hit from Hayley Dittmar. Playing then slowed with four runs gained. Some good fielding from Giants kept Trinity at one run for the innings.
Hayley Dittmar and Brooke Skewes both had two base hits to start Giants off in the second innings. Two catches by Trinity’s Madison Horrock at short stop kept Giants to three runs. After two quick outs Trinity answered with a grand slam home run by Zoe Doudle giving them four runs.
The game was called to time before Trinity could finish their innings giving an end score of Giants 12, Trinity 11 or, if reverted back to the end of the last full innings, Giants 9, Trinity 7.
All three of the U13 players for Giants (Tahlia Sutton, Tylor Bolton, Danielle Kenny) were an asset with all of them getting around the bases.

BLUEJAYS DIV. 2 V GIANTS DIV. 2

The first innings started with Blue Jays at bat with the highlights being the homerun hit by Emma Perry. For Giants Brooke Skewes had a lovely hit to left field which was caught by Bridie MacKeneth.
A variety of fielding efforts on behalf of Giants in the second innings showed U13 Tylor Bolton fielding well in right field and a good catch by Hayley Villis-Ward in left field. Some average pitching by Bluejays and some patient batting and running by Giants saw them lessen the gap in the scores by the end of the innings.
By the end of the third innings Bluejays beat Giants 12 runs to 9, with Giants U13 Danielle Kenny getting bat to ball. A big thank you to the three Junior Players that stepped up to help us out, we hope that you’ll help again!

Two Wells U17’s v Trinity U17’s

Two Wells juniors had their double header today and certainly held strong and played a great 2nd game… Nat Wik pitched well taking 3 K2s for the game and only giving up 4 walks. 1st innings the team started a little sluggish but came together well by the second innings and were much stronger in the field. 2 of Nats 3 K2s were in the second innings holding trinity just the 1 run.
Two Wells was much stronger with the bat this game with a couple great power hits to centrefield by Zachery Watts, Nat Wik and Brodie Smith. However standout hit came in the 2nd innings from Layne Watts smashing a huge grand slam hit to centrefield bringing in 4 runs to end the innings. Final score 12-8

Kangas Div 2 vs Two Wells U17

The youngsters from Two Wells U17’s put up a gallant effort on Saturday against the Kangas Div 2 side, the latter eventually running out victors 14-3.

Kangas kicked off proceedings in the batting box and immediately applied scoreboard pressure to their younger counterparts, forcing mercy to be called after registering seven runs without an out. Featuring heavily in this was Siobhan Havis’ powerful hit to right field and Jess Wheatly’s to centre field, the latter resulting in an RBI for her side.

Two Wells also started strongly with their first at bat during the bottom of the first, registering three runs of their own largely due to beautifully timed hits to the outfield from Isabella Mecurio and Kaitlyn Watts, one to right field and the other to centre field respectfully whilst both completing RBI’s.

Kangas scored another seven runs during the top of the second with Jess Wheatly amongst it again with another nice hit to right field, registering another RBI in the process. Two Wells really stepped up their defensive pressure during this dig though, this time managing two outs, both to Brodie Smith at short stop completing the put outs with strong throws to first base.

Two Wells were unlucky not to add to their total during their second at bat, loading bases and really applying plenty of offensive pressure to their opposition. Jack Ruediger starring with a powerful strike piercing the infield while Kangas pitcher Rhianna Havis finishing the innings with two K2’s.

Heading into the top of the third, Kangas added a further seven runs to their tally courtesy mainly from Rhianna Havis’ monster hit through centre field with loaded bases, completing the grand slam for her side. Two Wells held their composure though, completing another two outs with Brodie Smith featuring heavily again before time was called on the game with the score reverting back to 14-3. The youngsters from Two Wells, the future stars of GDSA walking away holding their heads high with many positives to take from such a spirited effort.

Kangas Div 1 v Two Wells Div 1

20-0 tells the story of the game. Kangas got off to a flying start with a quick three outs in the 1st innings,followed by some excellent team batting and base running. Kyla Whiting was fantastic with the bat in all innings batting 100% for the day, following it up with smart fast base running. Unfortunately for Two Wells there was no let up. Sharp fielding from the whole team and Great Pitching from Kim Storton combined with Kangas best batting this season seeing every player hitting the score board finishing up a great day for Kangas.
Two Wells played a player short again this week but never gave up, Nikki Ruediger pitched well for her first game back after 8 weeks off for an ankle injury. Amelia Benn came in half way through to change the pace however Kangas were very strong with the bat this week and were just too strong for Two Wells on the day.
